Which artist is famous for his painting of the Sistine Chapel?

Michelangelo

Michelangelo, whose most ambitious project was the painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, worked on this masterpiece from 1508 to 1512. What is less known is his initial reluctance to accept this commission from Pope Julius II, as he considered himself primarily a sculptor. The fresco, covering about 520 square meters, depicts scenes from the Old Testament, including the famous image of God's finger touching that of Adam. This project not only solidified Michelangelo's reputation as a painter but also set new standards for Renaissance art.
