Which unique writing system was developed by the Mayas, considered one of the most advanced writing systems of pre-Columbian America?

Glyphs

The Mayas created a sophisticated writing system composed of glyphs, which could represent either words or syllables. This system enabled the accurate recording of historical events, religious rituals, as well as astronomical and mathematical knowledge. Maya glyphs were carved on stelae, ceramics, and inscribed in codices, foldable books made from bark paper. Although many of these precious codices were lost or destroyed after the Spanish conquest, the work of modern researchers has allowed for much of this writing to be deciphered, opening a fascinating window into Maya civilization.
