Who painted “The Scream”?
Edvard Munch
"The Scream" is one of the most famous artworks in the world, but did you know that Edvard Munch created four different versions of this work between 1893 and 1910? The inspiration came from a personal experience where he felt an infinite scream passing through the universe during a walk. What is less known is that Munch wrote about this moment of existential panic at the bottom of one of the versions: "I was walking along a path with two friends - the sun was setting - suddenly the sky turned blood red... my friends walked on, but I, trembling with anxiety, felt an infinite scream passing through the universe and it almost tore my ear." This confession makes "The Scream" not only an icon of expressionism but also a poignant testimony to human anxiety.
